  1. I didn't even know PV cells used UV radiation. Surely they use visible light and infra red mainly?

    But no, if PV panels use UV, then it means the UV would be hitting that place anyway

  3. Solar panels contain silicon crystals, and they act by principals of quantum mechanics. The photons from the sunlight are falling on the thin silicon-platelet and move the electrons from one atom to the another producing direct current. The upper side of the platelet is covered with an element which has one electron more than the element in which is covered the other side. The UV radiation doesn't flow through the wires, it is the electric current.

  4. NO. It's converted to a different form of energy.

    Like the nuclear power plants that produce elecricity, the radiation does not get in to the wires or whatever. It's basically just taking one form of energy and converting it to another.
