sri Rudra Abhishekam is to give long life (Mahaa Mrthyunjaya who gave long life to sri.Maarkandeya)

Abhishekam=giving bath to sri.Sivalingam with many auspicious materials,while chanting sri Rudraadyaayee .

There are many ways (1) Rudra Ekaa Dasani (11 scholars chanting sri Rudram (Namakam=Praising the Lord) for 11 times  and at the end of chanting each time,chanting one chapter of Chamakam= asking for boons(there are 11 Chapters=11X11=131 boons).the Poojari will do the Abhishekam

(2) Maha Rudram 101 schoalrs chanting for 11 times as mentioned above--or reversely 11 scholars chanting for 101 times as mentioned above.

(3 ) Athi Rudram ;- 101 scholars chanting for 101 times or 101x101 =10,201-- .if it is divided by 11 it will work upto 927 times --so  11 Scholars for 1001 times completing in 11 days,morning a few hours (one Kaalam) and evening a few hours (2nd kaalam) with Ceremonial purity -taking Bath morning and Evening--The "Yajamaan " for whose benefit the Ritual is done and his wife should also observe "Ceremonial Purity" on all days  and take bath Morning and Evening and change Self washed dried clothes each time. .After each chanting or after one Kaalam some Sweet Food material (prepared with Ceremonial Purity)should be offered as "Naivedyam (Food--sweet rice,lemon rice,coconut Rice Huli Rice or sweet wheat preparations or sweet fruits) to GOD and distributed to devotees.During the entire chanting continuously, one Poojari should bathe sri Siva lingam with many varieties of fragrant materils.(Milk,Curd,Rose water, Sandal paste,Saffron milk,Honey,Mixed Sweet fruits-cut in pieces and mixed,Ghee, Tender Cocunut water,brown Jaggery powder etc- between each item with pure water -it is very "Essential"--water can be arranged to be brought from Ganga,Yamuna Godhavari, Kaaveri,Tambraparni and other sacred rivers(rich persons, who can arrange)  and mixed with locally available Pure River/well water--Medium income persons can manage with local pure cold water...)

In case of low income Scholars ,they themselves with their wife sitting nearby, can chant and do Abhishekam for sri.Siva lingam at home with ceremonial purity not less than 11 times .
