  1. Each deaf child, just like every hearing child, is different. Some have learning disabilities, others do not.

Being deaf is considered a physical disability. However, being deaf and using sign language is not a *learning* disability. It is merely another way to communicate, one which requires a sign language interpreter to give the student full access to the discussion and teaching taking place within the mainstream classroom. American Sign Language, ASL, is a real language, just like English.

  2. Not necessarily. It depends on if they have other issues. Being deaf cause a hearing impairment.

  3. NO of course not their deafness is a physical disability but obviously their ability to learn sign language shows a learning ability at a high level.

  4. No, if you realy have a probleme and you need to used the sign language to communicate this is not a disability. Everybody have the right to communicate and promote his ideas even if this mean to used a sign language, even if this mean blind systeme. Even us we are not deaf we use a <sing language> when we want to communicate in a  streiger language.

  5. a special educational needs is

"have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of children of the same age

    or

have a disability which prevents or hinders the child from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for children of the same age

    or

are under compulsory school age and fall within the above groups or would do so if special educational provision was not made for them. " SEN Code of Practice

So it depends really on the setting, support available etc whether or not it has become a disability, but in most cases I'd say yes its a learning difficulty because they will need someone to sign for them, to support them in accessing the curriculum etc.

  6. Of course not, a physical disability is not a learning disability.

  7. it's all on how the person thinks if thay want to think of it as a disability yes

  8. No. It's the same as a person who communicates in a language other than english.
