  1. Exeptional!

  2. Assuming you mean an 1800 rating issued by a reputable body (CFC, FIDE, USFC) and not Yahoo! chess I'd say it's a good rating for such a young boy but nowhere near genius.  According to the ELO scale, 1600 represents an average club player.  I've played against a lot of young people with 1600-1800 ratings.  Again, I'm talking about a CFC rating here in matches "over the board."

  3. that's pretty d**n good, dunno there's no set definition for a genius.  But that person could certainly be a grandmaster someday.

  4. There is a diffirence between a prodigy and a genius.

A genuis is a person with an exceptional IQ, who can often calculate and find things out faster.

A prodigy is a person who becomes very good/great at somthing at an early age.

While you would have to test the IQ of the child to see if they were a genius, weather or not he/she was a prodigy would depend on openion.

In my mind the child would be a prodigy, although not by much as the number of players who achieve such a rating at an early age is small.

  5. Yeah, at first I thought you meant just a kid and I was like, "no," because I know two 10 yr olds who are rated 1650 and 1750. Then I saw the 8 yr old thing.
