  1. hmmm...well if the owner was the one who bred her that would be just stupid of them.

I think you mean if she was already pregnant though. In that case I guess you would just have to let nature take its course. Most wild mares don't seem to ahve problems though. If she did I would asume you would just have to try and get in there and help her. If she was in enough distress from the pain I don't think she would get up. Again, though if her insticnts take over who knows she might just "suck" it back in and run off. xP

I think you best bet would to be herding her in a stall/small corral so that way she wouldn't run off and maybe the vet could give her a light seditive to just calm her and do what he had to do. Good question though. I personally would  (if you knew she was pregnant and it didn't just pop out of know were) try to gentle her as much as possible so I could help her during labor.

My statement above would prbley be your best bet though. :P :)

  2. Call your Veterinarian.  They can tranquilize her and then help her.

  3. Make sure you have a vet that is experienced with untamed horses that will come out or you can hope for the best.

  4. It would be a difficult proposition.  If the mare was in such a predicament that she was down, that would be fine, but while it's not a bad idea to suggest vet assistance, I can speak from experience and say that the vet has to be able to get their hands on the animal.  I guess there are some veterinarians that are equipped with dart guns, but none of the ones in our area are.  I've had people call before wanting an animal tranq'ed because they can't get their hands on the critter, and I have to tell them that in order to tranq an animal the doc has to be able to get close enough to actually inject it.  Anyway, enough rambling....I suppose one would have to wait until the mare was exhausted to the point of being unable to flee, and then do the best that could be done to assist her at that time.

  5. i would call someone who new what the h**l they were doing.

  6. Don't breed her.

  7. A vet, obviously, but the vet would probably have to somehow sedate her if the problem was serious enough.

  8. Pray.   Good luck finding a vet that will come out and vet a distressed, untrained Mustang in labor.  The minute you mention Mustangs they get apprehensive.
