I was always led to believe that in most circumstances, it was proper etiquette for the person initiating the call to end it. Of course, I don't always follow that, as some people can be really long talkers over the phone.

  1. ummm not reallly  cause what if u need to go somewhere then u would have to go theres no proper etiquette when talking on the phone

  2. You are right, if someone calls you, you are supposed to wait for them to end the conversation.  But, if you get someone who is long winded and you just can't talk with them anymore....you can politely sign off.

  3. You are correct in your belief. They pay for the call - they decide it's duration.

That is good manners, but in case of long-windedness, it is always a good idea to have something in mind (like a dental appointment, or a requirement to visit a sick relative) you can say you really have to do and therefore must unfortunately terminate the conversation so that you can get on with it.

  4. I would think it's proper...good question? :D

  5. It is proper for either party to end the conversation when they can no longer stay on the phone.  It would be improper for either party to continue to speak on the phone when they needed to be off the phone.

  6. I think you are right. But if the person talking is just plain boring, or talks to much, who says that you have to wait for them to hangup? I sure wouldn't.

  7. Not if your busy

  8. It depends on the situation...

    overall, yes!

But if you have a place to go, then let them know, but nicely.

Let them have their say...be courteous.

  9. NO you end it when you need too.  If you have a talker on your phone. . you can always end it early.

  10. if youre busy let him /her know that you are in a hurry.but it is a proper way to wait but if its a nonsen conversation,i think you have to say ,sorry i  have to go,just allibi

  11. My wrap-up phrase is, "Okay, sounds good..."

  12. No. You are free to say "It's been nice chatting but I have to go.." at any time.

  13. Ideally it would be a mutual decision. If the person is calling for a specific reason, then once they have discussed that reason then the call can be ended. If you are short on time it's fine to say that to the caller and offer to catch up later on if they are being persistent.
