If someone calls you "coy" is that a bad thing?

my boss and i were joking around and i said to him in a kind of sarcastic manner, "ah..you are so cute" and he said "you are coy".now i know what the word means(after looking it up), but did he mean that in a neg. way? the next day i handed him a piece of paper w/the words def.(i told him "here is my assignment") from 1-4 and wrote on the bottom in italian "lei e astuto" & he started to laugh and then later he said,when i asked if it was bad..the whole "coy" thing, he said i didn't mean it in a negative way. he is 47 i am 25 and going to school...what should i take of this? am i sending off the wrong message here?

Well, it's kind of hard to tell what message you are trying to send this guy.  Do you act shy around him?  Are you interested in him?  It's probably not wise to be calling your boss "cute" or trying to date him for that matter.  You know the old saying, "Don't **** where you eat."?  

But to answer your main question--no, I don't think your boss meant to call you coy in a negative way.  He probably did because he would like to hear more from you.  My suggestion would be to talk to him more and open up (but not too much) to him.  It may even end up as a promotion!

it is nothing personal you are coming on a bit too strong though in the work place not everything said is meant in the way you think it is thats why somethings are left unsaid and others are jus to be ignored
