If someone commits a juvenile crime does it affect a possible legalization status?

for instance if the person was 16 and got charged with possession of marijuana, and tries to apply for his permanent resident card can it be denied even though he paid his dues. No stupid comments please is for a government discussion class

  1. The USCIS does a full FBI background check during each step of the process, which is why they take your fingerprints so many times.  If they find any reason that they can deny you citizenship or change of status, they have the right to and do.

    You have to understand that obtaining citizenship is not a paperwork process, that there is substance behind allowing people into the country.  The real problem in the US is the complexity and frustrating length of time it takes to get through all the bureaucracy, which is why people choose to live here illegally.


  2. no as it is the juvenile record this is sealed at age of 18.i have spoken with an immigration lawyer about this for reasons and he said a juvi record will not particularly  bar someone.

  3. It can be used against the person, yes.  But it's less likely to be used against him since he was a juvenile and due to the nature of the offense.
