  1. It's not OPEC or the Arabs that are stopping the development of alternatives to oil - Abu Dhabi to Invest $15bn in Green Energy, Hydrogen Plant

The US based global corps have most to loose by people getting alternative local energy supplies. Which is why the US gov is funding hydrogen research rather than micro-electric generation.

A hydrogen system locks users into centralised manufacturing & yet to be developed expensive distribution systems (home-brew hydrogen in garages & basements will be banned for saftey reasons)

but electric can be produced from many sources, distributed direct to home or work via existing >80% efficient system.

and electric cars to meet all our personal transport needs are technically possible today http://www.whokilledtheelectriccar.com eg http://www.phoenixmotorcars.com

  2. A Guy find a new way to fuel our cars, pretty awesome, not what you would think could burn.

How to create hydrogen from water, salt and electricity for only a few dollars. This is an experiment that produces explosive gases, so please be careful!!!

  3. Hydrogen is the smallest atom ,and the most explosive. many plastic hoses will let hydrogen pass right through. 5 gal. of liquid hydrogen will blow away the entire block. What if there is a wreck???. I don't think the world is ready for that yet.

  4. Your questions and follow up demonstrate you know nothing about H2, Physics, Chemistry, OR economics.

I suggest a complete lobotomy and start over before asking another question.

  5. Hydrogen isnt used because its highly explosive, not so much about the price.

Oil will soon run out, were still experimenting and trying to find a fuel for the future. Some people, such as in Brazil, use rape seed oil to run their cars, it just means a cleaner environment.

OPEC know people will keep relying on oil, right up to the time when it will run out - about 100 years away surprisingly.

Your added comment:  When hydrogen is concentrated it is very explosive, thats why it was replaced with helium, because there was a huge disaster with an air ballon that they made around 50 odd years ago.

I Don't necessarily believe so, don't get me wrong I’m one for conspiracy theories, in fact I live 100% off the grid away from society to prove it. But the technology is out there and has been for a longtime. I just think society isn't ready for it yet, almost but not yet. I don't think the government killed the EV either (though I’ve been wrong before) I think consumers did.

Anyway back to hydrogen, Honda has just released their first Hydrogen car (FCX Clarity).

"The FCX Clarity is a next-generation, zero-emissions, hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle based on the entirely-new Honda V Flow fuel cell platform, and powered by the highly compact, efficient and powerful Honda V Flow fuel cell stack."

It definitely has potential for "future car technology". In fact Honda just gave the first Individual Customer from Las Angeles a 2 year lease on the FCX.

I built my first hydrogen cell about 5 years ago and now currently run 2 trucks, my home hot water heater, home stove and home generator on hydrogen (no ones contacted me yet) and offer a step by step DIY guide to walk anyone interested threw the process. You can find it at http://www.agua-luna.com/hydrogen.html or you can email me.

Hope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions,

  7. The energy required to make hydrogen is more than the energy it provides.

Energy to run electric generating plant, electricity to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Nuclear power to run the electric power plant used to crack  water into hydrogen would work.

  8. Fossil fuel availability is still 10 million or so years out. The recent discovery in the Gulf of Mexico will keep us refining crude for another 3 million years.

There is no motivation for Big Oil to give up mining the fossil crude they have or can get. The Alaska reserve will also add another 5 million years. Does anyone think Big Oil is going to change when they have 8 million years to make up their mind?

Go figure. It a matter of economics. Their economics not ours.

  9. Well "get" is a pretty general word. But if you mean western countries found a cheap LOCAL source of hydrogen so that they didn't need to import oil any more, they would have FEWER problems with OPEC. But OPEC would have big problems. They would be out of business, right?

  10. No.  Society does not have the infrastructure to distribute hydrogen.  It would cost billions upon billions to replace all the gas stations, tanker trucks, storage sites etc. just to distribute the hydrogen to end customers.  Not to mention how much it would cost to modify or replace every car, motorcycle, lawn mower, snow blower, etc. out there.

  11. there is a cheap souse of hydrogen that is both plentiful and easy to find. it is in water the problem is that it requires energy to break water into hydrogen and oxygen. currently that energy will only come from polluting souses such as coal.

solar power is just getting up and running so hopefully in a few years we can move off fossil fuels. but Even if we use hydrogen cars we still will need oil for plastics, dies, paints, medications and pretty much everything Else you could think of.

  12. No, because the cheap hydrogen would almost certainly come from hydrocarbons.
