If someone had stitches in their leg and was waiting for it to heal...?

...and their leg began to hurt while healing, how would you ease the pain?

painkillers, i wouldn't put anything directly on the leg in case of infection

It probably is infected. Try an antibiotic ointment or see a doctor to be sure it's not. You don't want to get blood poisoning.
