  1. There are FAR too many variables to say since taxes depend upon filing status, number of dependents, itemized deductions and even the source of the income.

    For a Single taxpayer claiming the Standard Deduction and no dependents, it would be about $138,000 per year.  

    For a married couple with 5 kids under age 17 and claiming the Standard Deduction it would be around $180,000.  

    The same couple with about $61,000 in itemized deductions would be earning about $223,000.  And if that same couple's income was exclusively long-term capital gains, their income would be close to $320,000.


  2. Too many variables to know, but if you are saying $30K for federal income tax, then they most likely made at least $200K.
