Someone I know has HPV, but she wants to give me her used clothes as a b-day present. I don't want them, & I don't know how to tell her without an argument starting. I don't mean to sound childish, but I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, & I would have an anxiety attack.

  1. Just dont wear her underwear if you are concerned. HPV is sexually transmitted, wearing someone elses clothes will not put you at risk of getting it.

  2. I understand that you have OCD but you must also learn to try to control some of the symptoms of your OCD.  This may be one chance to do this.  ME telling you here that by washing the clothes throughly will stop the chance of you catching HPV will not help you because your OCD will kick into overdrive and you will obsess until you won't be able to stop.  I suggest since you have a computer you do a bit of research on HPV and how it is transmitted.  You will then find out that your friend CAN give you those clothes, you can wash them and they will be perfectly safe for you to wear.  It will be a good lesson for you to learn for your OCD because you will see it with your own eyes and you will be washing the clothes yourself so there will be absolutely no reason for you to have an anxiety attack.  You must remember that anxiety is the one thing that only YOU can control.  I suffered severely for years from it.  I would be driving and would have to pull over.  YOU have to take control of the situation instead of letting the situation taking control of you.  I know it sounds hard...but it truly is mind over matter.  Anxiety is just your thoughts racing and getting our of control.  Deep breathing, relaxing and thinking about the situation logically can almost always stop an aniexty attack.  I relied on benzodiazapines for years until I found out that those actually make the attacks occur more often.  Learning to confront and work through the attack logically is the best way.  Do some research and accept the clothes.  I do know she knows that financially you cannot afford to buy new ones and is doing it from the kindness of her heart.  People are trying to be kind, be kind in return and at least look it up on the computer and find out that you CANNOT get HPV from clean clothes from someone who has HPV.  Bless the person who has offered you these clothes.  You are receiveing blessing left and right on this birthday!!!!  Happy Birthday all weekend!!!

    Peace & Love  :)

  3. If you wash them then they are fine to wear. The virus will not live through washing. However, if you have OCD and think that this is going to bother you simply tell your friend that. I don't think I would mention the part about HPV grossing me out though. Just tell her the last sentence of what you told us.
