  1. read your self. Atleast twice a year finishinf Qur'an is Compulsory. Considering the Islamic Calender.

  2. Assalamu Alaikum, My dear Muslimah.

Just reading or listening some one reciting  Quran with out  understanding the meanings of the message of Quran, doesn't mean much  because one who doesn't understand does't follow the commands of Allah either.

Quran is meant to be  read and followed  and not just to do tilawat without understanding.  Un-educated Molvees of India  Pakistan have been teaching that doing Tilawat of Quran has lots of Sawab. They don't emphasize to learn Arabic so they read with understanding because they  themselves don't know Arabic language to teach their students.

Arabs who understand the meanings of Quran, they read and listen carefully  while Imam is reciting Quran during Tarawih salats. Off course they do get the Ajar of listening the entire Quran behind the Imam.

How can those whose mind is travelling in their wordly thoughts during Salat because they don't  understand what is being recited   can get the equal Ajar to those who understand the meanings of recitation and have their mind present during salat.

I hope you understand  the big difference between the two.

  3. If you listen to Quran you get 10 rewards for every alphabetical ( eg. Alif, Lam , min is 3 alphabetical). If you read Quran you got 20 rewards from God. That has been promised.

  4. when i was with the mosque a imam said to us that listening

to the quran being recited is more better then reading but its good either way, with reading comes understanding and knowledge which can be applied to life so either way is good.

  5. it would be more nice, to read it by yourself!!!

  6. No.  You will have to read yourself to complete the Holy Quran.  However, you will get one reward for every letter of Holy Quran by listening to it while someone is reading.  The reward for one who is reading Holy Quran looking at it is ten rewards for each letter.  The reward for reciting verses from Holy Quran during salat is one hundred for each letter. Alif, Lam, Meem the letters in the beginning of Surah Al Baqara is not a single letter but separate letters.

  7. It's finished. Now you should read the rest of the holy books as it is written in the Qur'an: the Tawrat, Zabour and Injil.

  8. 007.204 When the Qur'an is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace:  that ye may receive Mercy.

    Al-Qur'an, 007.204 (Al-Araf [The Heights])

But I don't think it has the same virtue as reading it. May be you could try to recite it for yourself after you hear it. I mean the reciter reads a verse and you can recite it for yourself after him/her. In this way it is just as reading it and listening to it.

    Allah knows best.

    A note for Safia M:

Too bad we don't have those books nowadays...
