  1. Four years.

  2. You sign an 8 year contract that is either a 4x4 or a 6x2.

4x4: 4 years active duty followed by 4 years of Inactive Readiness Reserves (IRR)

6x2: 6 years active duty followed by 2 years of IRR

    OR

6x2: 6 years reserve duty followed by 2 years of IRR

  3. Well you can sign up for different amounts of time, I think the smallest amount you can do is 2 years.

  4. It is 4 years active duty, followed by 4 years in the inactive reserve.

  5. its usually 2 years must be served but you can make it longer. only time you can cut out early is medically discharged or if you commit a crime they will kick you out.

  6. 4 years of active duty and 4 years inactive.

  7. Until you are discharged.

  8. I am enlisted. Its 4years active duty. and 4 years reserves.

  9. *Sigh*

You're going to get lots of people telling you stupid things like "Until you are discharged" or whatever.

All contacts are 8 years long. It's usually split between active and inactive reserve time. Some jobs require you to take longer periods of active duty.

Typically, if you do 4 years active you get out and have 4 years inactive reserve, you don't report, you don't have to keep the standards, you're basically free. However, the military can call you back at anytime.

Some things, like reserve contracts are 4 years or 6 years, with 4 years you receive no benefits. At 6 years they chip you the GI Bill.

Best bet is going to be talking to a recruiter
