If someone owes me $15,000 and their state's maximum small claim is only $5000, how about I get them to sign?

3 different $5000 IOU's with different dates of service? Of course, that could result in 3 different court cases or 3 different property lien's, right?

Thanks for any help-

  1. Depends what the debt is occasioned by. If you lend someone $15,000 in three separate loans, then you can file three separate small claims cases. If you sell someone a car for $15,000 and he doesn't pay then it's a $15,000 debt, no matter what games you play with promissory notes.

  2. I don't think so...unless they were truly three different loans.
