If someone was totally new to NASCAR--what are 3 to 5 things they'd HAVE to know from the start?

1.that 200 mph is a whole lot faster then you think

2. no you could not do it.

3 they are athletes because of the amount of stress their bodys go threw in the races

4. there are 3 different major series... craftsman truck series(truck race and its the lowest level usualy on friday nights) Nationwide series( younger newer drivers usually drive in this but some sprint cup drivers do acosionally kinda like minor lueages). then the TOP DOG series is Sprint Cup where all the big dogs race on sundays.

Hope that helps also remember its not just idiots going in circles there going 200 and drivin 2 inches from each other and sooo much statigy is envolved its not even funny

1. Don't be a Junior fan without a good reason. Most of them are sheep.

2. Rules are subject to change based on Driver.

3. Tony Stewart may come off as a jerk sometimes but listen to what he says as he is almost always right.

1. It began when rum-runners from the Prohibition era were still running moonshine even after it was repealed. They would place bets on who had the fastest car and later started sanctioning races.

2. In 1949 William France Sr sanctioned the first Daytona 500. Part of it was on the beach and the other part was on the highway behind the beach since there wasn't a track built yet! The track as we know it today wasn't completed until 1959.

3. Only 2 drivers have won 7 championships: first Richard Petty, then Dale Earnhardt Sr. After that it is Jeff Gordon with 4 championships.

4. There are 4 restrictor plate races a year. They are both Talladega races and both Daytona races.

5. Don't diss Dale Jr in a bar. I've seen a guy do it and it wasn't pretty.

1.You have to learn who is actually in the lead and not how it looks on the track.

2. Pit stops are crucial, whether it is a green flag stop or under caution.

3. Listen to the announcers at first they know their stuff 99% of the time because that will help you understand the sport more, after that don't listen to everything you hear.

4. Pick you favorite driver by what you see him do on the track, don't let anyone influence you.

5. Most important, NASCAR fans are really passionate about the sport and their driver and they tend to get a little heated and they whine and bash a driver or NASCAR until they realize there is nothing they can do about it and they finally end their tirade. It just comes with the territory and you have to deal!!!

Tom's the VP for a reason, take his advice, the only thing I could add is pick a driver, whichever driver YOU want, don't let anyone influence your decision, stand by that driver no matter what, and enjoy! The more you watch, the more you'll start to understand the rules, and strategies, etc..

1. Go to a race, even if its just one. Watching on TV does not do it justice. 200mph on TV doesnt look very fast but when you see it in person, you will instantly become a fan.

2. Find a driver or drivers that you like for whatever reason, and root for them, support them, and stick up for them. It makes the season so much fun.
