If someones mum and dad both die, can the child go and live with who they choose?

  1. If the parents designated a person to act as parent, then the courts would probably honor that.

    Otherwise, it's up to the government, though they'd take her wishes into account. Of course, the friend needs to be willing to take the parental role.


  2. Generally, the court will give custody or guardianship to the closest relative. No, the child does not simply get to pick.  If there are no close relatives, and other persons are available, they MIGHT be able to request it, but it would be someone stable, and able to provide for the child.

  4. usually the parents have already assigned a legal guardian usually in their will. if not the court will order her to be sent to next of kin if they are able to. if the girl complains and says she isnt going to be treated right there then they can make adjustments.

  5. A court will decide the question but a 14 year old person's wishes would be well considered.
