If something is biodegradable and its put into a plastic bag that isn't biodegradable....?

will the inside contents of the bag be able to compost?

  1. As long as it gets hot from the sun. or Bacteria (leaf mold, compost etc ) is added to generate an aerobic activity.


  2. They will eventually rot to the degree the temperature and air inside the bag allows. If the bag is unsealed or get pierced like they do at the landfill, the contents will eventually break down.  I toss the plastic bags with any rotten vegies from the refrigerator into my compost bin - all I do is tear the top open a little or take the rubber band off it if I closed it that way.  Then a few weeks later, when I go out to turn the compost heap a little, I fish out the bags and just turn them out so the partly composted contents get in the heap and the plastic bag can then be placed in the trash bin outdoors.  It can still stink a little, then, but often I find the plastic bag later and the things from the compost heap have done their work - the stuff inside just looks like dirt. LOL
