  1. Yes there were three worlds before until the UN found it to be nonprogresive & discrminatory. Now the Third World Nations are called Developing Countries.  The second & first nations are called Developed Countries.

  2. ShoelessJoe is incorrect.

The term dates back to the Cold War.  At that time, the major nations in the world all allied with either the US or the Soviet Union.  Coming from a US perspective, we tended to consider our allies the "first world" and the allies of the Soviet Union the "second world", but neither term was ever used much.

The term "third world" was used to define minor countries that weren't really on either side in the cold war.  That term became popular and is still used today, even though the terms "first world" and "second world" are obsolete.

So even though the terms first world and second world were never used much at all, they still technically refer to the allies of the US and the allies of the USSR, respectively.

  3. when the phrase was first used, a third world nation was a nation that did not have an alliance with the U.S.A.,.....or the former U.S.S.R.,.....now days it seems to be used for the description of a backwards country,.....a country that does not have the technology we have,.....

  4. Most of the so-called Third World countries are made that way by the World Bank, and IMF who force them into accepting debts that they have to pay back through National taxes, so most of their money goes  to pay off this debt.

Then the multinationals move in and use the them as cheap labour.

  5. Countries like America, England, France, etc. are considered First World or developed nations.  Countries like China and India are considered Second World or developing countries.  We all know what Third World countries are.

With First and Second World countries you hear the terms developed and developing used more frequently.  Third World countries are usually referred to as such, although you will also hear them called undeveloped nations.

EDIT - my apologies, I stand corrected.

  6. Good question:

3rd world, 2nd world 1st world is all Pase now.  Some people got offended  I do not know when this happend.

TO be political correct now days there are only two. Developing nations (3rd world) and Developed Nations (G-8)
