Well maybe the American govenment would hide them, it's citizens would expect no less, but surely if they were real some country's government would confess to it's otherworldy visitors?

  1. There are actually several theories in this regard, none of which could be provable. A couple that I've heard include:

    1) The aliens require the government, as a condition of assistance, to hide their existence so that they can continue to study our development as a culture.

    2) The government is, itself, trying to prevent mass-hysteria and mass-exodus from the planet, which could be disastrous if all of the really creative and inventive people suddenly left because of the petty nationalism and old hatreds that we now have.

    3) The government benefits from having plausible deniability on something of intense interest to a sector of the population, since it takes attention away from other things that they consider far more important.

    4) Collusion between humans and aliens at a governmental level means that some countries get visitation benefits while others don't, and silence is the price for the benefits that such visitation could offer. Pressure on one country by all of its trading partners, for example, could significantly impact the dynamic of revelation. Threats could also be an underlying cause. Is it any wonder that world leaders are almost never ideologues?

There are other theories that I've heard, too: these are only the ones I really like. And as I said, none of these is really provable.

  2. Easy - to prevent panic and for the government to keep complete control.

You don't understand though - if aliens visited the earth and the WORLD would all the sudden KNOW and have undeniable proof - the world would go into complete CHAOS.

Yes the people who do know already are the people who of course are not panicked (most of them). But everyone else? There are so many people who deny the stories already out of FEAR.

Fear is a powerful thing, kid.

Mass panic is one of the worst things that can happen. It causes disorder. If we all find out we're not the only ones in the universe, it's chaos, and the government no longer has complete control. Our priorities and our lives all the sudden have new meaning and we don't feel safe anymore.

There's a lot more to it, ya know.

  3. Two words: Mass Hysteria

That's why there are so many movies and shows out there about UFO's...it's to get us ready.  ;)

    *edit*

BTW, even though people say that it wouldn't be a big deal, it would be.

We haven't even gotten over racism yet or our fear of people who have AIDS (generally speaking).

Imagine what kind of prejudices would be developed towards aliens if they did just show up publicly and/or the government introduced them to us.

Sadly, the masses would be afraid of what kind of diseases they could give us and interspecies dating...and then of course you would have your fanatical Christians that would think that they where the Devil incarnate....

Yeah, I'd say the government has plenty of good reasons.

  4. The American government is about wealth and power. Historically those are the things we have capitalized on the most in our country's existance. The pure and simple reason why the government would hide the existance of aliens and any technologies gained by them is because they want to capitalize on those things before anybody else does.

It doesn't matter if the aliens are friendly or not. It doesn't matter if the public is able to handle knowing aliens exist. What it really comes down to is the fact that the government does not want to share any information gained from encountering aliens that could be used for any military applications. They want to monoplize the information gained and any new technologies to ensure that someone (hopefully our Country as a whole) has more power and thus control than anyone else.

The same would be true for just about any other country that encountered aliens - they would not want to share anything that could mean they would be giving an advantage to other world powers.

Personally if keeping aliens and their technology secret means my country will remain the most powerful then I'm all about it. The last thing we would need is Al Qeada or the Iranians getting their hands on the same stuff (if it even exists in the first place).

  5. they would probably hide it and put a whole bunch of tests on it. because people dont accept things that stand out or are different. if u were to look at some1 walking down the street with a cowboy hat, ballerina costume and they're arms covered in tatoos you would think theyre freaks. same with aliens cept we have this preset mindset that theyll try and take over the world. no i dont believe in aliens this is just my opinion

  6. If space alien did visit Earth, there is no way it could be kept secret. Too many people would know, one would surely spill the news, astronomers would see the alien spaceships, ham radio operators would pick up the communication, and so on.

In fact, given that for instance North Korea used its crummy nuclear research as a bargaining tool to get free food and energy, many other countries would be using the "if you don't give us this, we will tell all we know about aliens to the press" blackmail.

And one of them would surely have done so already, out of spite and malice.

  7. We are the greatest empire on Earth. How does a president admit to a panic stricken public that we are basically as helpless as ants.

I do not believe in this whole crop circle, cow mutilation, constant alien abductions and 17 species of known aliens but I am completely open to the possibility that something is known about extraterrestrial life.

EDIT: Okay they are benevolent creatures? Makes not a difference, plus if there is one known ET, there would have to be countless, the universe is infinite. Do yo realize how technologically advanced ET would have to be to visit Earth? That would terrify the everyday person knowing we are absolutely powerless. Not every ET species would be civil.

  8. What if a deal was struck between a visitor and ourselves?

For example gold in return for sparing our lives?

How would they explain THAT to us?

It would be near impossible for aliens to extract it themselves, but by changing our economies, and imposing poverty on the world, gold is eventually traded for food.

By the way - where has all the gold gone that is supposed to be in the federal reserve? - The people don't have it - nor does the government........so where is it?

  9. Not to use a cliche, but, the answer is out there. With a little digging you will find that the countries of Russia, Japan and Briton freely admit that their military has encountered unexplained flying things. I tend to believe our gov't does have knowledge of UFOs. Some sightings and experiences can be explained, but others can not. I feel our gov't has reversed engineered a number of items off of downed UFOs and we now use that technology today. They hide the extent of the truth so they do not look bad and to prevent panic among the people. If you knew that there was a stronger being out there that could wipe you out with advanced technology, that might scare you just a bit. That is why America has been having so many ET movies in the last 20 years. It is a way to desensitize us to the idea. Enough people in the know have come forward and given testimony that I believe we are being watched and maybe studied.

Only a few reasons why aliens would be interested in Earth...as a colony, to make us slaves, to conquer the planet, to take its resources, or scientific exploration. Look at Star Trek...a military vehicle traveling through space in order to learn more things...and all the weird humanoids they encounter. Not so far fetched is it.

    Hope this answers your questions.

  10. Knowledge is dangerous because it increases empowerment.

Sorry, but the only thing our government wants from its citizens is tax money and volunteers in the military for wars they put us all in the middle of.

Our politicians won't share anything that could possibly line their pockets full of wealth.

  11. HOW COULD THEY !

  12. Many politicians have been caught doing bad things, e.g. in my native Italy, Democrazia Cristiana was in power about fifty years until the 1990's  "Mani Pulite" investigations uncovered lots of corruption and caused the party to dissolve. If politicians can't hide their own crimes, they can't hide extraterrestial visitors either. The question is actually,"Could any government hide it?", and the answer is, "NO!"
