If speeding on the highway is a bad thing, then why are all cars sold in the USA capable of going over 100 MPH? Is there a logical reason for it, in terms of horsepower and engine efficiencey, or is it simply another contradiction in human and American thought.

Other examples being cell phones, radios, and eating in the cars while driving and of course, my favorite, wall-to-wall advertisements on the highways which actually distract a driver and increase more chances of collisions and accidents.

  1. It's for freeway driving purposes, and highway driving.  Not city driving obviously, like street racing.

  2. Yeah, well, if there made driving really safe, where'd we get all those organs for transplants?

  3. If car companies sold cars that didn't have enough horse power in the engine than it would'nt be able to get up a steep hill

  4. because spoiled little teenagers think that its cool if a car can go fast and that is who the companies try to sell the cars to (at least their parents anyway)

  5. It is my belief that it is due to engine efficiency which is likely to model a sort of parabolic which means that if maximum engine efficiency is calibrated to 55mph then the car is able to attain a mph which is greater than 55mph.

  6. so that more people will make car accidents and buy new car, making the economy grow (if they survive) or make them good for organ transplant, that is always a good thing.

  7. It doesnt matter how fast the car can go, you must be in your senses to drive the vehicles at optimum speed... I dont think that car manufacturers tell or recommend you to drive only above 100mph...

They are provided to help in times of distress not for street or track racing...
