To be a wrestling champion, you must demonstrate your technical skill in the ring, have a highly developed character, be a good draw, etc. It takes years of working in the business to put all that together so that the organization will agree to let you be the champ, for however long. After all, wrestling is not an actual sport in which people compete. Rather, there is a pre-arranged scenario which they act out. The managers all figure out ahead of time who is going to win and who is going to be chmap.
