  1. u mean it is thrown up with a speed of 4.9 m/s.

    the motion till it reaches the max. height:

    u = 4.9m/s,v=0,g=-9.8m/s^2

    v = u + gt

    0 = 4.9 - 9.8 t

    t = 0.5 sec.

    the time it takes to reach ground is double this time,so it is 1 second

    Firstly, in a problem like this, don't worry about the weight (or mass in this case, rather) of the object. It's just been put there to confuse you.

    Ok. The stone is thrown upwards with a speed of 4.9 m/s. Since gravity is 9.81 m/s^2, and 4.9 is about half of that, without any maths, just logic, we can see that the stone will be brought to a speed of 0 in half a second.

    Now, the second part of the question can't be answered, because we're not told how high above the ground the stone has travelled. What if it was thrown above a cliff, our out of an aeroplane?

  3. g = (Vf - Vi)/t

    t  = (Vf - Vi)/g

    t = [4.9 m/sec - (-4.9 m/sec)]/9.8m/sec

    t = 1sec    ANSWER
