If studying at NYU where is the cheapest, safest place to live?

I am on scholarship - I have ~$500. for rent and I am cool with roomates.

  1. Stay on campus until you learn the city.  It is the cheapest (and safest per dollor) option you will ever have in your life.

    Of course you could live outside of the city, but why bother going to NYU then?  You will pay $200-$300/month in commuting costs as well.


  2. Well this also depends on how far your willing to travel! The cost of gas is rising. I'm from orange county NY the cost of living out here is decient. All the trains lead out here from NYC to all the different suburbs. Middletown, Bloomingburg, Goshen, Pine Bush, Scotchtown, these are all beautiful safe. The commute by car for me to NY is approx 45min depending of course on traffic, I pay $1000.00 a month for a beautiful 2 bedroom condo and in dier need of a roomate to help. I can afford it, I just would like to have extra money to myself whether its to save or enjoy myself. Definitley look into these areas I think you'll be pleased, and Good Luck Ciao!
