  1. Under the present system, we have about 20 doctors surgeries within a couple of miles of where I live.  When I moved here, their "lists were all full" and I am registered with a doctor about 3 miles away. My doctors surgery has grown tremendously since the last shake up in the NHS and would probably be regarded as a polyclinic under the new system.

My local hospital is about half a mile away.  It has been closed and they are building a polyclinic on the same site.  Many of the one-doctor surgeries nearby are moving in and the more efficient arrangements mean they will be able to treat new patients.  I might even get the opportunity to go to a doctor nearer to home.

In rural areas where doctors are few and far between, there is little point in having polyclinics.  In towns - especially London suburbs - where there are hundreds of little surgeries, it makes a great deal of sense.
