  1. You have to use the inverse identity.

    arctan (tan(x))=x

    arctan 'undoes' what tan does to x.

    tan x =.8

    x=arctan .8


  2. tan x=0.8

    tan x =8/10

            =4/5

    x= tan inverse of 4/5

  3. Use the arctan function (or tables).

  4. you can rearrange the equation

    tan x = 0.8

    x = 0.8/tan

    although you will still need a calculator lol
