player not a frontrowplayer, scrum collapsed, teacher carried him off the field on his shoulder, the player goes into a coma, x-rays shows his neck is broken and he is parralised for life

  1. I think the referee would be more teased by the parents than the teacher, but the local rugby organization would be held responsible.

    I play rugby, and if this happended to me, I would say that i knew the risks before signed up to my club.


  2. There are legal aspects...to this. If treatment or first aid makes a player worse, the person can sue. Depends on the country..of course..

    But you don't carry someone with a obvious or suspected or possible neck injury from the field..thats just gross incompetence.

    But what a horrible situation, for all concerned.

  3. Yes, the person can try to sue, but most places have "good Samaritan laws" that protect people from being sued like this (unless it was gross negligence or intentional or something).

    You'd have to check the laws where you are.

    Plus you'd probably have to prove that the teachers actions were what caused the paralysis and not the scrum collapsing.
