  1. Teachers can carry a gun for his/her self defense. However, the situation is very complicated in a classroom. In most state schools, teachers need to spend about 80% of their time to handle those walking around students. If there is 1/5 of students wanted to learn, you are really lucky.

    Those gun carrying teachers should have very good EI and capable to handle their own emotion. Otherwise, those teachers would kill half of his classes.


  2. It's too bad things are coming to this. It seems to me that it would be easier just to throw out the troublemakers on the first offense. We all know who and what the troublemakers are.

It may not entirely stop School Shootings , but it would certainly slow them down.Just like plenty of Highway Patrol State Troopers have a way of slowing down speeding drivers.If everyone knows that Teachers are armed, and trained , it would certainly give a potential School Shooter something to think about.

  6. Isolating authority figures with guns having the only affect on gun crime rates, if you consider the USA and the UK- The Police Officers there carry guns as part of their standard equipment, they do not in the UK. However in the UK, gun crime rates are lower.

    Though differing factors affect this, using the same principle, if teachers carry guns it could have a similar affect (perhaps even making shootings more likely, since guns would be introduced as an integral part of their educating life).

    So ultimately, I would say no- it could only have negative affects.

    I don't think it would stop school shootings.

  9. I heard about this Texas decision the last day, I even found out something else that according to some figures from the ATF teachers in Texas have more guns registered than The Irish army. In fact according to the figures religious cults in texas have more weapons than the Iranian army.  I for one be very afraid of one of the fifty doomsday cults in Texas getting their hands on a WMD.

  10. It's Texas. They are like a foreign country inside the US. Their ideas are always askew. If this insanity works, it will only do so in Texas. Texans are among the dumbest and meanest people on the planet.  

  11. No, this is not an answer to the problems in our schools.

    But with careful administration, then I think that some kind of corporal punishment would have a place and would be effective.  

    It was in my schooldays, and I believe it would deter many of the so called hard cases, presently  bullying children and teachers in our more problematic schools.

    There are no guarantees. Just something else the teacher needs to be concerned about.  

  14. Teachers have enough to do trying to educate their pupils without having to carry guns. If they were obliged to carry guns you can envisage a scenario when there would be open warfare in schools, similar to that scene in the film "If" when pupils were attacking teachers from the rooftops.

  16. No it would not, it may lead to a horrible shootout scenario where someone could get killed.

  17. No. Adding guns to the equation isn't going to help.  Concentrate on removing guns from the owners, because arming teachers may work as deterrent to some, but could turn a tragedy into a bloodbath.

  19. No - probably increase them!

    Kid walks in with one gun shoots the teacher and now there are tow guns.

    Unless the teacher pulls the gun on every kid that walks in they are simply going to be unprepared and get shot and loose their gun every time!!

  20. It would be a deterrent but maybe not stop shootings. On the plus side, a shooter can be stopped by teachers before he kills more. The main reason schools are targeted by shooters is because they know schools ban guns on their property.

  23. I can imagine the worst case scenario right now.  Laughing child gets shot dead in school yard by teacher in front of dozens of eye witness kids.

    They all said he was a nice kid and it was a pity he had to be shot dead, but apparently he was laughing at a joke told to him by a friend and the teacher thought he was starting a riot.

    That's okay then!

  24. Good grief, what next?  I don't think it will do anything to stop shootings.  There will always be that one weirdo that will go to all lengths to make a point. Very sad.  I think I heard that this town it quite small and so it is kind of a policing of itself.  I'm not sure but I think I heard that.  So this isn't a country-wide  policy,  well, not yet anyway.
