If the 2012 National Hockey League Playoffs were to start tomorrow -NHL Special
There are still four months to go in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season but the excitement is already at its pick as fans and spectators around the nation cannot wait any more until the playoffs kick off and teams battle it out for
the most coveted prize in the hockey world.
For those who can’t wait any longer, this is dedicated for them.
Looking at the present condition of the NHL, we will be taking into consideration the teams who have the top eight places under their belts and imagine them heading into the playoffs, which certainly will be interesting seeing the new additions and the teams
that will be left out this time around.
Starting with the Eastern Conference,
Eastern Conference
Boston Bruins (1st Place) vs. Ottawa Senators (8th place)
Boston managed to slide into the top spot just a day earlier after dominating the Florida Panthers for an amazing, 8-0, victory for their sixth straight of the regular season. They started off at the bottom spot after winning the 2011 Stanley Cup, which
looked as if they would end of like the Chicago Blackhawks, but now their right back up an on top.
The Bruins would be facing the Ottawa Senators as they stand first with 47 points while the latter has 39 points to be in the eighth number place as the Winnipeg Jets would have been eliminated at number nine with 37.
Entering these imaginary playoffs with the momentum they have caught on nowadays, Boston would easily dominate and literally destroy the Ottawa team in a matter of four-games. The series most likely would not even see a game five at the speed Boston is travelling
with.
Before these playoffs began, the two teams met on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, which definitely not a pleasant seen to witness as Boston routed the Senators, 5-2.
Ottawa has improved monumentally from last season in which they were ranked amongst the lowest in the league, but Boston is a seasoned team and taking them on would require a number of practice seasons in order to perfect every aspect of their game and then
head into a contest with them.
Prediction: Boston wins the first round in a 4-0 series.
New York Rangers (2nd Place) vs. New Jersey Devils (7th Place)
New Jersey has seen better days being one of the oldest teams in the major league, but going up against the rejuvenated New York Rangers, the Devils could find themselves in some trouble.
Last season, the Devils were ousted of the playoffs in the last moments, which was a first for them in the past few seasons, but now, with Zach Parise as they captain, New Jersey has also found some new hope of making it big this time around.
New York and New Jersey have only met once this season and that too just a few days before these playoffs were to start in which the Rangers dominated Devils, 4-1.
The main issue is that New York’s offensive power is just too much for Devils to handle at the moment since the Rangers are equipped with players like Brad Richards, Ryan Callahan and a goalie like Henrik Lundqvist. This certainly does not mean New Jersey
could not win a few games, but they most definitely could not win the series.
Prediction: New York Rangers advance after a 4-2 series.
