  1. no more for ottawa how many times is this not going to work out. quebec would be a good idea they love football there, maybe halifax? and defintly never ever a team in the states..... remember the posse, mad dogs, barracudas, cflers, pirates, gold miners............................... ugly times

  2. At this point, I think the US possibility has to be ruled out.  The NFL would frown upon the CFL moving south...as I recall the NFL helped bail the CFL out the first time they tried it in the 1990s.

As for evening out the West-East ratio...the league could, potentially, add on two eastern teams, move Winnipeg back to the West, and its all good. (West:  BC, Cgy, Edm, Sask & Wpg;  East:  Ham, Mtl, Ott, Que & Tor)

On the off chance they try to move to twelve teams, and with a sour talent pool I hope they don't try this...perhaps go to three divisions.  (West BC, Cgy, Edm & Sask;  Central Ham, London, Tor & Wpg;  East Halifax, Mtl, Ott & Que).  The only real problem this would cause...again beyond dilluting the talent...would be losing the East vs. West factor of the Grey Cup.  This is minor, though, when you consider how many Grey Cups that Winnipeg has represented the East in over the past 20 years.

  3. first they need to find owners who are committed to building a stable franchise that wont fold like the latest version of the Ottawa franchise did

  4. Personally, I would like to see a team added in Ottawa and a team added in Halifax.  Winnipeg could move back into the west.

I do not agree that the talent pool is not there to support this.  The CFL is more about selecting the right players for the game than it is about the availability of players.  There are some depth issues potentially around meeting requirements for Canadian born players.  However (especially with NFL Europa closing), there are many players available in the US with the skills to contribute on a CFL team.  It is more about scouting the right players.

  5. Well, seeing as Winnipeg was in the West while the Renegades were in existence, I think that further expansion out east would result in them changing divisions again.  I highly doubt we'll see CFL teams in the States anymore after the way things worked out in the 90s.  And, seeing how I used to get my American network channels from Spokane, I can tell you that it's definitely Seahawk Country out there.  I doubt that a CFL team would have a chance.

That being said, the only expansion I can see happening in the near future would be putting a team back in Ottawa.  I highly doubt we'll see the CFL expand beyond 9 teams anytime soon.

But, to answer your hypothetical question, which I see that no one else has done yet, I think that Victoria is the largest western city without a CFL team, so they would deserve consideration, although they are on an island, which might make travel interesting for opposing teams.  Then there's always the possibility of dividing Rider Nation by putting a team in Saskatoon to compete with the one in Regina.  I don't think it's ever been given any serious thought, but it would make for an interesting proposition.  Other than that, I don't think there is anywhere else that could host a CFL franchise.  Maybe if the oil sands keep booming, we could see a team in Fort McMurray, AB, in 20 years?

Nah, like I said before, I really don't think any expansion beyond Ottawa is gonna happen anytime soon.  But that doesn't mean we can't speculate, right?

  6. No more teams please.

Winnipeg keeps ping-ponging around from East to West to East to West and so on and so forth.

The league cannot handle another team, the talent isn't that great in the CFL anyway, they can't filter it out anymore.

Let's keep it at 8 teams.

  7. I doubt the league will ever cross the border again.  I'd like to see a team on the East Coast.  I think the folks down there would pack the stadium every week.

Can't explain Ottawa.  I know more people who don't klive there that were fans of the team than they got for most games.  If they added Ottawa (again) and Moncton or Halifax, then Winnipeg would go back in the west and we finally would have a balanced league.
