What was the purpose of stoning people to death and then to send someone to die for the law to go away?

Why would a loving God want people to be stoned to death or ask for animal or human sacrifice?

  1. animal sacrafices stopped when Jesus died for you and me. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of our sins.

  2. The God Yahweh established the death penalty in human societies to keep law and order amongst the people. He knew it was a necessity to keep humans civilized towards one another. What people fail to realize about animal sacrificing is that it's main purpose was to feed themselves. You can say that we still sacrifice animals today to feed ourselves. We just now do it in our commercial slaughter houses instead of in Temples.

  3. This is evidence that god was created by man, not vice-versa.  As man's needs and philosophies changed over the years, so his concept of god changed.

  4. Because it was part of His plan from the beginning of time, my friend............

    God Bless..............

  5. Because people were ignorant back then..just as you are today.

  6. Because he had the morals of his creators.

  7. An intelligent question, but it looks like you have already made up your mind in regards to the answer.

Moses answers your question.  The law was to be a witness against the people; that they were a faithless, stiff-necked and rebellious people, and the law served as proof of this.

The law also forever establishes the standard by which God's justice was served through the sacrifice of Christ.  That law proves that no man can measure up to God.  Man thinking he can be like God, or make himself to be like God is like a gorilla thinking he can be a man.

The stoning and death sentences associated with the law help to demonstrate just how serious sin is to God.

    .

  8. God gave Moses the authority to make laws because the Israelites was getting out of control and disobeying God. God gave 10 laws to the Israelites (the 10 Commandents). When Jesus came, He perfected the laws of Moses and now we are living in a time of grace.

  9. YHVH worked for the salvation of many people, including you.  He tried to guide them into the narrow way to salvation.  Salvation is a covenant YHVH made with mankind.  It is like a marriage covenant.  Take YAHOSHUA's name, follow His rules (Torah) and you become His 'bride', and He saves you.  Jews think they can be saved without the Savior by keeping the covenant.  "Christians' think they can have the Savior without the covenant. (and while insulting Him by calling Him a liar, and calling Him by heathen names).  go figure.  Heaven will NOT be crowded.

  10. You don't sound like you have been reading the Bible.  It answers all these questions.

  11. The Old Covenant was a temporary Covenant that was to last until Christ came. Christ ratified the New Covenant and began pouring out his Spirit on the day of Pentecost.

The law was meant to show how seriously God views sin. The physical death was symbolic of spiritual death, spending an eternity in h**l.

The animal sacrifice (there was no Old Testament human sacrifce) was also symbolic. The person laid their hands on the animal's head and confessed their sins. The animal died in place of the person. This was a temporary "covering" until Christ shed his own blood to cleanse us of sin.

The Law was also the legal framework for the nation of Israel. God showed us that preditors should be dealt with rather than tolerated in society.

The New Covenatnt was prophesied in the Old Covenant times.

Jer 31:31-34 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant ... this shall be the covenant that I will make ...I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.... And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Under the New Covenant we recieve the Spirit as the prophet Joel also prophesied would happen in th New Covenant. (Joel 2:27-32)

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
