If the North Pole was perpetually in sunshine with the sun 23 degrees over the horizon, would it eventually become warmer than the tropical regions where the sun goes directly overhead, but with longer nights?

  1. No. At the pole, the sun would remain at 23 1/2 degrees above the horizon - pretty low - but at the equator the days would be 12 hours long, with the sun reaching a maximum altitude of 66 1/2 degrees.

  2. No, because the atmosphere would carry air and the oceans would carry water to even out the temperatures.

And also, at 23 degrees, the sun has only 39% of the power that it does at 90 degrees.  39% for 24 hours is still less than 100% for 12 hours.

  3. No, during the summer solstice, the sun reaches 90 degrees overhead at 23.5 degrees N latitude, much closer to the equator than the North pole.
