.....why don't the 'powers that be', do something to encourage companies to reduce all the packaging they use on their products?

They seem to wrap things to oblivion and when we've finally got through all of it, just to get to the product we bought, we're left with a weeks worth of recycling!

Most of the packaging is unnessecary anyway! : )

  1. I completely agree, trouble is at the moment the government or should i say local councils can put a tax on your waste and get a lot of money by doing this.

What annoys me is that you are in the wrong for throwing stuff into the waste bin that the local council cannot recycle ie: some plastics. Now common sense tells you to use plastics that are widely recyclable.

  2. I agree with you, but the reason many people are not doing anything about it is because it can take up to three valuble (but not the most) things in life; time, effort; money. But sometimes, helping can save money to, like turning off lights and taking shorter showers. You should check out this site.

  3. i whole heatedly agree with you some big super markets are looking in to reducing  packaging, my mum goes to her local fish mongers and butchers with tupperware boxes which they encourage people to do , if might be a small gesture but every little helps ....     :)

  4. Mother Earth will turn on us. There is nothing we can do.

The governments of the 'enlightened, democratic states' are applying scare tactics. This earth will warm up and huge upheavals will occur. No government can stop it....but they will tell you they can if they want your vote!!

  5. Products need to be packaged properly to get to market safely. The question should be- is there a better packaging material that is more readily renewable and recyclable.

  6. The powers that be are afraid to act because they fear we will not support them.

The thing to do is to demonstrate the way you feel about packaging by refusing to buy heavily packaged goods and by taking your own bags to the shops.

Campaign on the issue and persuade others to join you too and as soon as the politicians realise that there are votes to be won they will jump on the bandwagon and pretend it was their idea all along.  Never mind.  Just enjoy the achievement quietly like we are enjoying smoke free pubs in England nowadays.

I am glad you are concerned about the issue.  The adverse publicity recently given to plastic carrier bags demonstrates we are making progress already.

    Best wishes

  7. because most of the packaging on products is  security packaging to keep people from stealing whatever it is and companies don't want to loose money.

  8. Because global warming has spawned an industry worth billions. The 'powers' that be would rather penalise the end user than put any of the wrapping manufacturers out of work.

  9. I agree with you that some packaging seems wasteful.  Much of the packaging is needed to keep the product fresh, or protect the product from damage during transport.  I think if we were to require that all packaging be removed, companies would have a lot of their products either go bad or get damaged.
