If the Gold Coast is the most overrated destination in Australia what is the most underrated?

I hear people praise the Gold Coast why? there are so many more beautiful places without the over development, hyper commercialism and plasticity of the GC. Like to hear where you think deserves more recognition

Well first most people love what the GoldCoast has to offer. It's not everyones ideal . The nature lover would love The kimberlies I think The Kimberlies is a unique part of the world right down to the Pilbarra with The Ningaloo reef.

Gold Coast is an over developed hole.  It has no redeeming features, save for the hinterland.  I could not find a decent restaurant at all.  There are two types of people there.  White Trash and White Trash with money.

The most under rated destination is the Great Ocean Road.  One of the best drives one can ever experience.

any of the little towns that are hardly on the map are so great to visit the warm welcome from the locals is lovely.

Tasmania,probably because people are worried about going to a cold and rainy climate,but its truly a beautiful place with a lot of historical sites and unique wilderness.

also broome awsome place with all the sun and more that the gold coast can offer-distance is probably the problem.

The Gold Coast is great for tourism, hense the commercialism and development.

Canberra gets left out a fair bit but I've been there heaps and while its small it has quite a bit to do.

Also your smaller coastal areas such as the South Coast of NSW.

If you have kids the Gold coast is great, heaps to offer.

The Gold Coast is highly commercialized and if that is not what you are looking for then it would be over rated. Unfortunately you have not told us the sort of things you are interested in so any suggestion we make will be what we consider under rated. Speaking for myself, I like hiking in the High Plains of Victoria
