Just wondering. Went to the Parliament and that made me have more questions than answers. It's funny that the queen cannot enter the chambers when they are in session.

As a strong advocate of limited government and personal freedom, I recommend that people vote for Libertarian Party candidates, Constitution Party candidates, and Ron Paul Republicans & Democrats in state and local elections. At the same time, I also encourage everyone to attend local Republican Party meetings as a way to influence them and possibly take the party back from the neocons. Take DVDs and flyers and hand them out. We must get involved on the local level, or nothing will ever change.

  2. In Australia in the 70's the Governor General sacked the Prime Minister and the elected government, causing uproar and all h**l to break loose, so I guess it could happen in Canada also, at least theoretically (I presume the systems are very similar)

  3. The Governor General can remove the prime minister if he loses a confidence motion in the House of Commons.  If the Prime Minister were to not call an election before a 5 year term, then the Governor General would also have to dissolve Parlament and call a General Election. If that were the case, the Prime Minister could lose seats, and that could lead the Prime Minister losing office indirectly.

  4. not really. Even during Martial Law, the PM has lots of influence and in martial law, control. Infact the Prime Minister "advises" the Queen in choosing the Governer General, more realistically, the PM tells the Queen who to appoint. The Governor General has no real power (or vitally important government job like the PM and MPs). Although it is the Governor General General's responsibilty to make sure there is always a PM and to dissolve the government (then again, on the advise of the PM). However, in theory the Governor General could do so.
