If so, why? Doesn't it seem that he picked her only after he knew Hillary was out of the game?

  1. I'm  not a mind reader, but, sad to say, probably not.

Again, I can only guess, but most likely.

  2. He probably would not have.

It is a shame that a presidential candidate needs to pick a VP purely based on how many "idiot votes" he will get.

People don't pay attention to a candidates politics as much as their looks and personality.

It is a shallow world where the person who looks best on TV gets the votes.

Obama is the perfect example of this

  3. Probably.

McCain knows that his age and his lack of executive experience are the two biggest hurdles that he faces.

That means he had to select someone younger with executive experience.

Secondarily the issues are important (I hate US Politics, the issues should be the most important but they are not).

Palin is Pro-Life, like 40 percent of democrats and women in general are.

About 70% of the black population (if I remember right) is anti-abortion, primarily on religious grounds and the fact that forced abortions and sterilizations were performed on blacks by Eugenicists.

Women are more likely to vote for a pro-life woman than a pro choice man according to one poll I read.

about 70% of the nation is pro-2nd amendment in some form.  Palin is pro-2nd amendment.

Men are more likely to vote for a woman to be Vice President than President.

Palin also successfully went after Big Oil in Alaska.

Lots of statistics out there that make this a great choice.

  4. Probably not, but it's still a smack in the face.

Why does he think Hillary supporters would go after her?

She's the COMPLETE opposite of Hillary on EVERY issue.

The fact that he did something like that is a smack in the face.

  5. Well at least he's got the women's and the youth vote sewn up. Can't you see women all over America going...ooh! b***s! place thumb-print here->

  6. everyone knew Hillary was out of the running before it even started... it would have been VERY smart of Obama to pick Hillary but he blew it... I think McCain still would have picked Palin b/c she is a great running mat, not only b/c she is a girl.. the conservatives LOVE her

  7. h**l no.

He only picked her because she was a woman.

If she was a man with the same credentials,

    it would have never happened.

  8. Having watched MSNBC, almost daily, it is evident that Hillery has been out of the running for the VP position for quite a while.

and after reading portions of her address at the Democratic convention I can see why.

However McCain has had personal contact with Palin for some time, Before her selection as running mate, Gov. Palin served as an informal energy adviser to Sen. McCain, saying she has spoken with the Arizona senator about the need to drill more in places like Alaska.

Most of those that were in the running for his VP had also been his opponents in the primaries, and had make several attacts on him, especially the most popular choice of many.

I think that he picked her because she displayed most of the beliefs and attitudes that he identified with.

  9. Absolutely not. Yeah politics can be pretty corrupt, but we're talking about the future VP of the US. I mean I'm sure it helped and that he picked a girl, but it's not because Obama didn't pick Hillary (even though he probably should have). McCain made an excellent choice picking her and he didn't pick her because she's a women. She has all the credentials to be VP.

  10. doesn't it just seem obvious that the only reason he picked a woman was because the Democrats thought Obama was going to pick Clinton and McCain is playing on the "Need for a change" platform?

it just all seems to me that McCain is trying to ride the coat-tails of Obama's ideas

  11. No.  The Palin pick was definitely in response to Obama not picking Hillary.  It is a feeble attempt to try to pick up what the Republicans see as the still bitter Hillary supporters.  What they fail to account for is that Palin's political ideas are completely the opposite of Hillary's.  The chance of any Democrat women voting now for McCain because of Palin are slim to none.

  12. I believe he needed to find a credible running mate, and there were not a lot of choices. So he went outside the box and found the perfect person for the job.

  13. No I think she was chosen to pull over some disenchated people who wish to move women forward.
