I hear that the citizens of the Commonwealth Realms, though with the Queen's rule, are not exactly in favor of her son's(and maybe also her grandson's)soon-to-be kingship. What are your views?Do you believe that the majority condemns, condones or simply allows Prince Charles's accession to the thrones?

  1. The main thing that the Commonwealth can do,is to object to a Royal marriage. It cannot have a say in who becomes the monarch.

  2. i think that people are probably more accepting of the idea than they were a few years ago i personally think that william will make an excellent king and will do alot of good for this country what you have also got to take into consideration is that the queen is now 82 and charles is coming on 60 so if you say the queen lives as long as her mother that will be 80 before charles gets a look in and i dont think that he will become king at that sort of age

  3. The nice thing about being Royalty is that it doesn't matter what the people want, unless Her Majesty says otherwise, or he abdicates, Charles is next in line.

  4. Well the people are still angry at Charles for his divorce with Dianna.  I mean some actualy go so far as to accuse him of being in some sort of coverup.  The thing is that with the Commonwealth royalty it is the Court of Lords if I'm not mistaken that gets the vote.  And for the most part they almost always follow the will of the previous ruler.  The people's majority don't truly have a say in the matter other than perhaps the influence they carry over the Queen.  In the end it really doesn't matter, the English crown long ago released (was forced) to abandon all governmental powers.

  5. Although Charles is not nearly as popular as his mother or his son, I don't think he is currently so unpopular that the majority of people will want his abdication or vote to dissolve the monarchy.

    --------------------------------------...

On the other hand, Charles is now the oldest person to become a monarch after the death of a parent. Only William IV was older, and he became king on the death of his brother. If Elizabeth lives as long as her mother, Charles will be 79 and William will be age 45. If Charles is in poor health, I think public opinion may be important.

    --------------------------------------...

The Queen's uncle clearly abdicated because he believed that parliament would dissolve the monarchy rather than accept him (and his wife) as King.

    --------------------------------------...

The monarchy exists under the law of parliament. In the Act of Succession of 1701 it was clear that parliament could chose who was King. There were almost 50 people who were closer relatives to Queen Anne than George I.

In addition, the Balfour Declaration of 1926 provided the dominions the right to be considered equal to Britain, rather than subordinate; an agreement that had the result of, in theory, a shared Crown that operates independently in each realm rather than a unitary British Crown under which all the dominions were secondary.

Twelve of the sixteen commonwealth domains have only had one monarch in their existence. If Charles is immensely unpopular, they can simply become republics. Theoretically, they could  also make William their monarch.

    --------------------------------------...

As I said earlier, I don't expect anything like this to happen, but I disagree that the will of the people is entirely moot.
