  1. It's hard to say because there is no footage on Burley (Save for one fight, I'm told).  We can only go by what we read and are told by the historians.   Eddie Futch once told me he believed that Burley would have beaten Anyone Except Robinson.  Mr. Futch KNEW what he was talking about.  For so many years he was the best trainer in boxing and not given credit for it.

WIthout question. I go with Pappa Smurf  (the one thing Riddick Bowe DID right was give Mr. Futch a perfect nic-name).  I would love to get my hands on that one fight.  I could give a better judgment.

    Robinson by decision.

  2. Robinson was a welterweight in those years,  Burley a middleweight.  Given that fact I'll still take Robinson by unanimous decision.  Burley was a strong puncher but Robinson had a great chin and I don't see Burley being quicker than Robinson

  3. Great matchup and a close fight.  This would be a welterweight battle and Robinson's record as a welterweight is better than anyone's.  Burley is a very crafty, clever, counter punching tough fighter that many say Robinson avoided because of his style.  Robinson had blazing fast hands and good power so this would have been a great fight.  Got to go with Sugar Ray here by split decision and a clamoring by the boxing public for a rematch.
