Do you think there's a difference between R.F. troops and peacekeepers? The people of Georgia don't seem to differentiate, then again, it's hard to differentiate when you have tanks in the streets.

  1. Russia asked for independent peace keepers some time ago - before this recent conflict  - and have again asked for UN peace keepers.

  2. The Russian "peacekeepers' would remain.  They still haven't left undisputed Georgian territory.  This is a land grab plain and simple.  It's one thing for them to occupy South Ossetia, but they're currently on Georgian land and they have shown no intention of leaving.

I hope NATO forces them out because UN peacekeepers are worthless.  UN peacekeepers are in Lebanon and have a mandate to keep Hezbollah from rearming.  Hezbollah has completely replenished it's stockpile of missiles under the UN's nose.

Sometimes UN troops are worse than worthless.  In East Timor Jordanian soldiers acting as UN peacekeepers routinely raped and molested children in exchange for giving the children food and other aid which was intended to go to the civilian population anyway.

  3. Russians would run them over with tanks and then blame someone else.
