...why are we following a path of "free the world" from tyranny when our nation isn't exactly perfect?

  1. In terms of logic, your question indicates that you believe that health care is based on a government decision by one or two people.  Health care is treated as a business and is left to float in the free enterprise system and that does not work very well for everyone.  Free enterprise views toward business encompass concepts of only the strong surviving, costs are determined by need and a hospital should operate on the bottom line.  Some laws do intervene to require certain treatment for those cannot pay but that only causes havoc with the bottom line.  While you attacked EB's response on a personal basis, I do not think that your two points are related and you weaken your question by taking a swipe at what I guess is foreign aid.  Iraq is a war that costs a lot, but there are billions spent each year in aid to countries that do not partiuclarly like us either.  Should we continue with foreign aid to third world countries or keep the money here and spend it on healthcare?  Health care in this country is not very good and requires more intervention and control.  Money could be well spent on cancer research and reductions in costs to the average person.  The Clinton administration probably had the best chance to make inroads but Hillary folded her tent and backed off for political reasons after promising to revamp healthcare.  Its a popular idea but it did not suit her purposes then but she will certainly shill us again with that.  Countries that have socialized medicine do not seem to be better off than the US but there could be great improvements here.  Waiting for, or hoping for politicians to resolve such problems is that root of the problem now.  But, again, you are tying to two unrelated things together in your question.  Now, you may attack me as you did the other answer you did not like.

  2. We're only spending about 1% of the GDP on the Iraq war.  We already spend about 17% of the GDP on healthcare.  So moving money from the Iraq war to healthcare wouldn't make a huge difference.  Also, if that move resulted in our enemies getting stronger, and ending up dropping a nuclear bomb on New York, then we'd lose a lot more money than we saved.  And we're helping Iraq even though we're not perfect for the same reason that the police would help you if someone was attacking you, even though the police aren't perfect.  And if they did, I bet you'd appreciate it, instead of whining about it.
