  1. I don't think so. I think a war with Iran would be a major air battle and not much of a ground affair.

  2. I believe so.

Others say that it would be an air war or possibly navy firing missiles into Iran.

I believe that if we did that Iran would have serious trouble fighting back; but they are too strong for us to be able to take them down using only aircraft and navy missiles.  In essence we'd fight to a stalemate; they'd take the worst of it but it would still be stalemate.  And Ahmedinijad has already shown he is rather stubborn and willing to accept the deaths of his people if only to show America up.

Which means to win we will have to invade.  And as you say, our army and marine forces are rather strained with the two wars they have on their hands already.

Truth be told, I am somewhat surprised Bush hasn't already tried to re-enact the draft.  I can only surmise that he is worried that if he tried everyone would start protesting in earnest, some of those protests being rather violent.  He may be worried that he wouldn't be able to control the unrest among us if he went with the draft.

But if he is foolish enough to go to war with Iran (or McCain is if he wins), one of them will have to bring back the draft to handle things.  It would be the only way to defeat Iran and not fight to another stalemate.

  3. it is extremely unlikely any draft will ever be enacted.

Going against Iran would be very difficult unless we drew down our troops in Iraq to about 50,000 and even with Obama that will be 3-4 years.

  4. No the military does not want it We leaned our lesson in Vietnam many there should have been in jail and not the military Just think about it if some of these posters here had to go into the military Dang it's takes all the courage I have to order a hamburger from them

  5. Nobody wants to 'declare war on Iran'.  We haven't 'declared war' in this county since just after Pearl Harbor.  We have been in maybe 100 wars since then, but none were declared, none were all-out wars like WWII.

Bush wants to BOMB Iran.  Just drop it and run.  It's simple, it's risk free because no American casualties will occur, and it's good for his friends who keep us supplied with the bombs and airplanes.  He wants to do it to get back into the headlines.  His reasons, like his reasons in Iraq, are based on lies.  It is the act of a coward.

We wouldn't have a chance of prevailing in Iran.  Look at the trouble we're having in Iran, a small fraction of the size.  I'm afraid the draft is completely out of the question.  NOBODY is going to stand for that, in either party.  Even if so it would take a couple of years to build up our forces and train everyone.  It's just out of the question.

  6. naw...theyd just tell the troops what they said to the people long ago...go west young men go west!

  7. even with a strained military, it is unlikely the US would enact the draft. Not only would it cause a ripple of anger in the country and low support for the war, but c'mon! do you think our military needs anymore kids that don't really want to be there? it's hard enough getting kids playing "soldier" just for the college benefits to do their jobs right.

*edit* dont get me wrong i completely support our troops, but i have low respect for people that join the military for the fringe benefits and then b**ch about it when they actually have to DO something. or those stupid WM's that join the marines so they can be s***s or cause "i, like, want to be with my boyfriend! *eyes glisten*"

  8. probably not

  9. Yes - and where is the money going to come from to pay for it?  We've been in Iraq for how many years now and we can't even control things there.  Iran is bigger and a lot meaner.  We don't need to go to war with yet another country who has done nothing to us.  If our President would stop threatening half the world, we'd have a lot fewer problems.

Read "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James Loewen for some real American history and the reasons a lot of the world hates our guts.  I love America and wouldn't live anywhere else, but we haven't always been the good guys.

  10. No,

It would be mainly bomb dropping, air force bombing, and the navy firing missles. After we take out most of Irans defenses, and military within the first week.

Send in a 10,000 marine force to do clean up duty. Pack up and leave.

    Quite simple, no occupying.
