Question:

If the Wings win, would they be the most "international" Stanley Cup champs ever?

The Wings have at least eight Europeans who are serious contributors to their winning ways. Along with an American, some other Euros, and even a Newfie (sorry, I couldn't resist), they're a pretty good representation of the hockey world.

Has there been another championship team that saw so many key contributions from non-Canadians?

  1. Well the Wings relied pretty heavily on their 5 Russians the last time they won the Cup.  But most NHL teams have several Europeans in starring roles.  The league is much larger than it used to be and Canada can't match the number of hockey players playing in Europe.  That a country of around 30 million can't out- produce more great players than the whole of Europe is nothing to be ashamed of.  And since when is a Newfie not a Canadian?

  2. Maybe with the most Swedes.

The 97 team had the Russian Five, Lidstrom, Holstrom and Tomas Sandstrom. That's just off the top of my head. Sandstrom was a huge contributor in the 97 playoffs.

Mironov replaced Konstantinov after the tragedy, so the 98 champs also had a Russian Five.

  3. I would call them the most Swedish Stanley Cup champs ever.

  4. no alot of teams have international players tht arent canadians

  5. Newfie being international?  LMFAO - You're gonna get it for that one.

  6. Maybe... The Penguins have a fair number of internation players as well.... Malkin.... ummmm.... did I say Malkin already?

  7. They have to be because they have the most International Players then any one other team in Hockey

  8. I'm so sick of seeing the wings win the cup. I hope the pens come back and dominate!

  9. theyre a great representation of chemistry. no other team could pull off what they can
