If the angle of refraction of a light ray is 35 degrees, calculate the angle of incidence if medium 1 is ethanol and medium 2 is glass.

please show me how you did this.. formulas everything :)

  1. The rule for refraction of light going from medium 1 into medium 2 is Snell's law ( the law of sines).

    If n1 and n2 are the respective indices of refraction and θ1 and θ2 the angles of incidence and refraction, then

    n1sinθ1 = n2sinθ2

    1.36 sinθ1 = 1.5sin 35 = 0.860

    sinθ1 = 0.6326

    θ1 = 39.24 degrees

    OK with this so far?

    The angle of deviation is simply how much the light ray has been deviated from its original direction, in this case 4.24 degrees.
