If the baby's heartbeat is faster then normal, does that mean they're twins?

My friend is pregnant i think 17 weeks. and her doctor said that the babies heartbeat is faster then normal, so now everyone is saying that she's going to get twins. is that true?

  1. If the doctor said, "...that the BABIES heartbeat is faster then normal," then he would be talking about twins.  However, I think you meant to write "...that the BABY'S heartbeat is faster then normal."  If that is the case, then it is only one baby.  A doctor should be able to differentiate between one and two heartbeats.  Since he didn't tell you that there were two heartbeats, I would assume that there is only one baby in there.  A fast heartbeat has nothing to do with twins.  


  2. No the doctor would know if there was twins. You can hear two different heart beats. The speed of the heartbeat has nothing to do with it. I am pregnant with twins and both there heartbeats are normal.  I could hear both there heartbeats at 12 weeks.  

  3. usually if the suspect she may be having twins they would send her to have an u/s, the baby just might have a fast heartbeat

  4. ummm if the doctor says "babieSSS" that means it's twins. The doctor would immediatly tell her if she is/ isnt carrying twins because multiple births are DUH different. She'd have to know
