The George of the 90's who was much smarter with actually a vastly superior jab to young George says if he could go back he would love to have done things differently

He said he would just stand in the middle of the ring and invite Ali

He stated in that instance if Ali didn't want the title then forget him

Would you bet on Ali in that instance to improvise a miracle against a young George being guided and trained by a wise old George

This is certainly no slap to the great Archie Moore who was actually in Foreman's corner that night

It is hindsight and totally hypothetical

  1. Like Id like to know what was 'Brilliant'about Foreman 'The Mummy'if you dont mind me asking??????a plodder and 1 dimensional slugger if ever there was one, please enliten me Dollbaby??

  2. foreman might have won ali had other tricks up his sleeve besides the rope a dope though

  3. Ali wins any way you draw it up the greatest of all time

  4. Ali. Though i do say it would have been a heaps tougher fight. But you have to give credit to Ali for the wisdom of that night. He would just have thought of another strategy to beat Foreman. Ali was the greatest!!

  5. I don't know, but if I could go back with him, all the brilliant ideas that came after that, would be all mine.  For any fighter weighing 187lbs and reaching  the pinnacle of most prestigious title in sports undefeated in the dwelling of bigger men and giants most definitely deserves being called the BEST, and if U don't bring your AAA+ game,ROCKY will knock U smooth out.

  6. Very good question.  There is a strong posibility that George could have won.  But remember,  Ali was in much better shape in Sept.  when the fight was originally supposed to happen.  Let's examine.

Forman would invite Ali to ring center but, even then, Ali was able to hit him almost at will.   Ali discovered he couldn't dance anymore so he went to the ropes.  Frazier once grabbed Ali's arms and Pulled him off the ropes.   Of course he couldn't do that at will.

If Ali chose to fight on the ropes than George could surely beat him if he fights differently.  Instead of throwing wide looping punches,  he would have to throw straight punches to the midsection to set up other punches to the head.   As great as he was,  Ali would soon learn he can't stay on the ropes.

Forman was no speed demon but he wouldn't have to be if ALi fought on the ropes.  Forman, as hard as he hits,  would land enough punches,  even despite the ones he would miss,  to force ALi to change his strategy.  Taking punches like that can take A LOT of will power out of a man.   Ali had it in abundance.

If Ali fought at ring centre but moved only when he had to, he could remain a step ahead of Forman without expending too much energy dancing.   He certainly would not win the fight by dancing because it was too hot and we would see shades of Robinson-Maxim all over again.   THE HEAT ALWAYS KILLS THE DANCER FIRST.

I have to agree that it was just Ali's night.  It was his atmosphere.   George was never comfortable in the environment of Zaire.  He could be ''Black as the Ace of Spades'' but he's still an American, True and True.  He could never embrace the spirit of African life.

Ali had the uncanny ability to "Turn Zaire into his back yard".  He became the Spirit of Zaire that night.    That atmosphere would have sucked the will out of MOST Black Americans because living in the US is just very different from living in Africa no matter what your race is.

Anywhere else,  Sure George might have a good chance.  Ali, as smart as he is, would have something up his sleeve.  But a good powerful puncher can change ALL your plans Quickly.

Sugar Ray Leonard often talked about "Bio-rythims".  I believe there is some truth to that.   ITs almost like the adrenalin you gain wn you hear your favorite song, only multiplied several times.  Ali had NO idea HOW he would beat Forman that night.  He just KNEW he would win.

I dont see any difference in the outcome.

  7. i think foreman would win.i think he hits ali in the stomach as hard as he can for 4 rounds and doesn't just swing wildly at his arms.he pulls ali in to the middle of the ring and ko's ali in the 10 round

  8. The same thing. Foreman never leaves that country alive if he wins. They fight anywhere else and Foreman wins.

  9. If he knew about Ali's rope-a-dope strategy he wouldn't of burned himself out in the early rounds, as he did.  He would've came with a more conservative strategy and won by decision
