  1. A captain of an AFL team needs to be a leader of the club, and a figure that fellow players respect, admire and look up to.

  2. A captain needs to be a player that can command respect and loyalty from his team mates and someone who when he leads them onto the field they are proud to follow.

  3. A figure that players can look up to and hold trust in.

A role model that helps and contributes not just physically to the club but mentally, helping the team mates and giving a good role model to look up to and admire.

  4. a good leader

    respected by his team mates

    leads by example

    Consistently plays well

Good both on and off field a role model for the younger players.

  5. Dropped

2006 When lloyd went out in the third game David Hille was acting captain in the year we finished 15th. Hilly wasnt doing good at all so they dropped him a couple of time and look where he is now.

I dont wana speak too soon but he's about to teach the second best ruckman in the competition a lesson tomorrow

  6. He should be the best plan manager and have the respect of his players.

  7. A captain of the club needs too have the respect of all his teammates, he needs too be able too handle the media and supporters. He needs too lead his club and also be a good player!

  8. well they have to be like on their best behaviour at all times/ on field and off so he can be a good roll model for rookies/ his players as well as supporters and kids. he has to be at training all the time and has to encourage his team mates a lot by just simply telling them .. good job and stuff andd.. give tips. telling them a better way of doing things and yeh... s yeh he should be a senior player.. eg Scott Burns for collingwood. hes a great leader and encourages his team mates. just like him hes gotta lead the club and be someone to look up to. collingwoods last captain Buckley was the perfect example.

  9. their leader

  10. **Someone who has great leadership skills and can bring his side together, getting them to lift.

Just because a player might be the best in his team doesn't necessarily mean that he'd be the best captain.

Look at someone like Matthew Scarlett and while he's not the captain of Geelong, he's one of their best players but he wouldn't be a great captain because he doesn't have the personality for it and I don't think he'd be very comfortable as the captain.**

  11. The captain has to have respect for the others no matter how they play, they have to have leader ship qualities and so on.

and the BEST EXAMPLE I CAN GIVE YOU IS DARREN GLASS!

GO THE ALMIGHTY WEST COAST EAGLES!

  12. Here is an example:

West Coast Eagles had there best player as there captain, which was a massive mistake, he turned out to be the most unloyal player in the team, he is now captaining a different team, just 2 years after captaining eagles to premiership flag.

They now have a captain who plays injured every week just to inspire his team, he is a proud W.A boy who isn't going any where, so it proves that even if you don't have your best player as your captain it can be more benefital.

The captain needs to be loyal, a leader, inspirational, a role model and fully committed to their team. I believe Darren glass (new captain) is all of the above.

  13. You just need to help your team when they are down and just show a bit of leadership. when the game is there to be won you cant always look to the captain to do it, i mean look at brad johnson, matty pavlich, chris judd and johnathon brown. they were all there when the game was needed to be won yet they ddnt do it for the team they missed their chance yet they still stood up to the challenge and acted like a captain.

  14. The captain needs to be a leader.  He/she needs to be able to "rally the troops" and encourage them when things are not going well.  The captain should also be able to keep the morale of the team going in both good and bad games.  He/she also needs to keep the team from in-fighting and keep them cohesive.  The captain must be someone the rest of the team respects.

  15. um well u look at geelong tom harleys is not the best but hes got them leader ship skills hes got the abiliy to lead the side to a premieship look imagine having a captian like didak one week reported the next OUT FOR THE SEASON so u expect a captian to have that u noe leader ship

  16. the best example I can think of this weekend has been Scott Burns. He is a competent, but not an outstanding player most of the time.

After a horribly upsetting week for morale and team spirit, Burns rallied his teenage mutant ninja Magpies, encouraging and setting example for persistence and application. He was ably assisted by Neon Leon and Dale Thomas (who is a potential skipper on his performance last night).

As well, Burns played above his standard, making opportunities for his forwards and helping in defence when needed.

    Well done, Scotty.

(and as regular readers will know, I am no Collingwood fan.)

  17. He really should weild the whip.

Just like Captain Bligh, & those other RN captains did, in the old days.

Well, we need someone like that down at Collingwood.

  18. A good leader who can rally his team mates

  19. The captain is never the 'best player' it goes to the best leader, off field and on field, in the case of Chris Judd and others he would probably be both.

Just look at Harley, Vandenburg, K. Johnson etc. not the best player in the team, probably not even in the best 3 players in the team, but their leadership is great especially Harley.

  20. Inspirational

The one who doesn't give up

    who leads by example

    encourages the rest

    and asks for the best
