Question:

If the chick peas come from a can, in some sort of liquid, do they still need to be soaked?

I have some channa masala recipes, and they all say soak the channa. But, it seems if the peas are already in liquid in a can (for months, or years) then they should already be soft. Or, do they require soaking in fresh water after uncanning?

  1. No but they are just soaked in water so they are soft... you might be missing some flavor though by skipping the channa.

You might want to rinse them and just soak them for a bit for the flavor.

What are they telling you to soak it in?  Channa is a fish?  it's used for sour soup- which is what I am thinking your going to soak it in for extra flavor.

  2. No.  The soaking instructions are just for dried beans

  3. no need to soak

  4. No they don't. Just drain and rinse.

  5. You should rinse them though.

The rinse is just to get rid of the canning juice.

  6. No, just rinse well.

  7. Nope.  They are ready to eat, ready to use in recipes, right out of the can.
