  1. The Orioles still have Chris Ray but he is hurt. He will be their main closer when he is healthy. But I really wouldn't trade Sherrill. Not as an Oriole fan. He is still fairly young and if he does burn out, then next year he could be the set up for Ray. But on the other hand if you get multiple young players for him why not trade. the O's are in a rebuilding phase that will last pretty long.

  2. the cardinals could use a closer. chris ray would close for the o's when hes healthy but i can see them using chad bradford. he has been a very solid reliever for them.

  3. The O's won't trade him. They like him to much and he is a solid rock in the bullpen.

But say that they do, the clear choice would be Jim Johnson who has been lights out this year pitching as the setup man.

  4. I live in Chicago and have heard no rumors of the Cubs going after George Sherrill.  Kerry Wood has been pitching pretty solid in the closing role, but he has missed a little time with a blister issue.  I really don't see the Cubs going after a closer unless that Wood blister is a lot worse then they're telling us.  If this is a true rumor, I'd like to see where you found this at.

  5. As an O's fan, I can tell you that the O's will only part with Sherrill if they got an offer they couldn't refuse...

If he did get traded, the closer would be Jim Johnson.

Chris Ray had Tommy John surgery and wouldn't be back until sometime next year...when and if he becomes 100%.

Bradford is a specialty, matchup guy ONLY (and an overpriced one at that!)....in fact, he is one of the guys that is on that block....perhaps back to the Mets...they certainly NEED some help right about now..

  6. According to the depth chart Chad Bradford would be next in line for the job. But it's highly likely that he and Jim Johnson would split the duties.

  7. Jeremy Accardo is proof that anyone can close.

If the Orioles trade Sherrill, who won't be closing next year and they get closer value for him, that's what counts for the Orioles.

They could use Bradford or Albers (if he comes back).

The Orioles aren't in a pennant race, they don't need a reliable arm for saves for the balance of the year if they can get good trade value for him
