If the doctor wrote for me GI, does it mean that I can't wear contact lens?

No, you can still wear contacts if you choose to, but the prescription for glasses and contacts are not the same. You would have to tell your doctor to prescribe you a prescription for contacts.

A prescription for contacts would also have the brand and base curve and diameter of the contact lenses that you can get written right on it.

That's what makes it a different prescription. Sometimes the power has to be changed a little also.

Which means, you have to get a contact fitting done first at the Dr's. to get contacts.
