  1. No. Earth is not going to turn into another Venus or Mercury. However, even a small temperature change will affect ecosystems, cause crop failures in many areas (primarily due to drought and floods associated with changing weather patterns rather than the rising temperature itself). Crop failures will lead to economic and political instability. This is a highly complex issue and is not as simple as "milder winters, more A/C in summers". Temperate and polar regions will warm the fastest but they still cannot support crop cultivation due to lack of soil development.

  2. I answered your other question regarding global warming.  No, we won't be burnt to a crisp.  When warming is talked about, it is in small degrees.  If the world heats up by just 3 degrees, for example, the polar ice caps will melt at a faster rate, and the oceans will rise by up to 6'.  That would inundate coastal cities.  Life that depends on the ice caps will become extinct. ( seals, polar bears, etc ).  It will also affect other parts of the world.  For instance, the northern states will be warmer, so less rain/snow, and forests will die off.  As will all the life that depends on the trees for survival.  Desert cities will become inhabitable, as the temperatures will be too intolerant.  Water shortages will occur.  And on and on.  I hope this helps your questions.
